Reasons to get running this winter

A recent study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine has suggested that no matter how little or often we run, it can reduce our risk of death by 27%. If we needed any more of a reason to get active this winter, this is it.

The benefits of running and keeping active have been shouted far and wide. From improved cardiovascular health to helping you lose weight, it is a simple, free way of exercising.

With the weather becoming dull and the nights getting darker, it can be hard to find the motivation to get outdoors. But, running is a proven mood-booster, and at the time of the year when we all begin to struggle, it might be the perfect way to cling onto that summer glow.

Running on your own in the dark isn’t the nicest way to spend an evening, especially after a long day at work or uni. But as a group, it can be made slightly more enjoyable and force you to stay on track. After all, it’s harder to not go if all of your friends are waiting for you and you could always go for a few cocktails afterwards! If you still can’t get them to join you, don’t fear, we have a solution for you.

Running clubs are a perfect way to meet some great people, and they don’t have to be expensive. We’ve included some of the best clubs to join – even if you’re on a budget!
