What to do after you’ve worked out!

What to do after you’ve worked out….

You have just completed the best workout ever and you are feeling great!. Whether you have proved who’s boss on the treadmill, or crunched those abs, we’ve got a few tips for you to do post workout to make sure you make the most out of your workout.

DO COOL DOWN:

Ok, so we know nobody wants to walk for an extra few minutes with jelly legs, especially after completing that 5k run. Allowing your body that extra time to relax its muscles, this not only lowers your heart rate but also helps your body recover from the stress and shock of that hardcore workout. This in itself rejuvenates your body and prepares it for that important healing process.

DO STRETCH :

Everyone dreams of being so flexible that they can touch the floor right? Well a targeted post stretch is exactly what your body needs. Nobody wants to be so tense and tight that it’s impossible to the move the next day?! Stretching will help build that flexibility and mobility you have always dreamed of. Instead of trying to stretch your whole body, focus on a key area. Spend longer on each stretch and include more stretches for each area. If you are aware that certain muscles are tighter than others, focus your attention on those as you stretch.

DON’T SKIP THE FOAM ROLLER:

Fancy a massage after the gym..well foam rollers are like giving yourself a mini massage, and if you have worked super hard, your body will definitely thank you. Foam rolling will break up the tightness and get that blood flowing again. Roll in all directions to make sure you hit the spot! https://www.masterofmuscle.com/us/top-7-benefits-of-foam-rolling-every-day/

DON’T REACH FOR THE SPORTS DRINK:

After a hard workout, a lot of us are guilty of craving the taste of that fruity sports drink, however sticking to water is so much more important. Most sports drinks are intended to keep you going during endurance exercise, not after. The give away is in the bright colours, it may seem attractive but it will do more bad than good. Stick to that H20!

DON’T STAY IN YOUR SWEATY CLOTHES:

We know you look amazing in those high waisted leggings, or that skinny vest! But not changing out of your gym gear after the workout could be leading to acne and yeast infections. Take 10 Minutes and shower and change to reduce this risk.

Not to fear though, if you don’t have access to a shower, at least opt for workout clothes made from synthetic fabrics that are specifically designed to get rid of sweat and keep you cooler and drier.

DO REFUEL:

Eating is one of the last things to do but it is also SUPER important! Not only have you burnt lots of calories getting all sweaty and super strong, but you have also torn muscles and used up lot of energy doing so. It is super important to repair and restore energy to your body sooner rather than later through protein enriched foods. We recommend eating within 90 minutes prior to your workout for the best results.

DON’T BE A COUCH POTATO:

Ok so you just worked super hard and pushed your body to the limit. You may think you deserve a little sit down and a netflix binge. However this is not advised, as keeping your body moving with light activities throughout the day keeps the blood flowing. Remember it’s the best way to help recover and refuel. You may think the sofa looks super comfy, but think of the abs forming and plan some light activity throughout your day.

DO GET A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP:

Having a good night’s sleep is a vital part of that post workout routine. After all energy is exactly what you need to push you through the dreaded burpees, and also keeps your hunger hormones in check. This way you don’t undo all that hard work and also get a decent nights sleep out of it!
